What is the best tip you can give another HSR?
Find your voice.
As a woman in a male-dominated workplace, I needed to find my "Voice" so that I could get my point across and they would develop respect and understanding.
Can you describe a time when this tip helped you resolve a health and safety issue at work?
Attending the Depot Safety action group of 23 men and myself and I needed to raise the issue of smoking near the building.
In terms of how you resolve OHS issues, what advice would you give a newly elected HSR? Or, what do you wish you had known when you first got elected as an HSR?
That just having a conversation with the management and gain both sides of a story helps resolve issues quickly.
What is your proudest moment as an HSR?
Learning about safe work practices in workshops and plant.
Can you describe how you resolved one OHS issue in your workplace?
Having a conversation with mechanics and providing that feedback to other departments that use the depot. Then using research on WorkSafe before going to management.
Can you tell us about any clever strategies you have used to resolve health and safety issues at work?
Having monthly meetings with the other HSR rep and ensuring things are followed up.
